Iovance Biotherapeutics Inc., a California based cancer-therapy firm, is opening a 136,000 sq/ft office and laboratory complex is Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. Iovance will use the facility to manufacture its tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL)-based treatments, which use patients own cancer inflicted cells to produce personalized therapies. Philadelphia was chosen in part because of its deep talent pool and adds to the cities growing clout as a biotechnology research-and-development hub. Iovance plans to employ several hundred at the Navy Yard facility and will produce treatments for thousands of patients around the world.
UEP Northeast provided (2) Fulton Endura Plus 6000 MBH high efficiency condensing boilers that will provide building heat. Additionally, the facility’s steam requirements, specifically humidification, are being served by a Fulton Engineered Skid package, which includes (3) VSRT 50 HP steam boilers (one now, two future), boiler feed systems, blowdown separator, water treatment and controls furnished. The UEP Northeast team worked very closely on the design with the projects mechanical engineer, CRB, and during the install phase with the project’s mechanical contactor, AT Chadwick Co.
